When the school year comes to an end, many families are faced with difficult times. These families in our community and around the country are dependent on school programs including free or reduced cost breakfasts and lunches, as well as before and after school care. During covid when the world shut down Duke Bakery partnered with a very generous and loyal customer to provide breakfast for kids in need which included a donut and a milk or juice. Now 5 years later we have found ourselves in a time of extremely high food cost, which drastically impacts many families in the community, so our team at Duke Bakery decided to bring our breakfast program back for the summer. After we made our announcement, an overwhelming amount of support came from the community. Numerous local businesses, including Darr Roofing, and many local families stepped up to the plate to assist in the cost. I am very proud to say in the first month of summer vacation we fed over 1500 kids. All of this is made possible not only by us at Duke Bakery and Darr Roofing or the other generous businesses and families that donated money it was made possible by YOU, our loyal customers and friends that patronize Duke Bakery. Whether it’s a donut every day or a birthday cake once a year, it’s because of you that we are able to step up and help our community. In this column, our first customer newsletter, I’m here to express my gratitude to you and also offer you a recipe, a “Recipe For Gratitude” take care of your community and your community will take care of you.

Thank You, Baker Ben
